Hearing the Spirit

This book is for those who are 'thirsty for a deep experience of the Spirit of God'. There is much confusion about how Jesus relates to the Holy Spirit, how Jesus the Eternal Word relates to Bible words, and how the Holy Spirit relates to the Bible. People say, 'You have too much Bible and not enough of the Spirit' or 'It's all very well talking about the Spirit, but where's the Bible?'

Whatever our background, we tend to fall back on untested prejudices or worry about unexamined doubts. This careful, biblical argument, drawn mainly from John's gospel, helps us see the answers to these questions in a firmly Trinitarian understanding. Hearing the Spirit is the way we know the Father through the Son; and we know the Father through the Son by the Spirit. By asking where the Bible fits in this process, this book helps us listen more deeply to the words of God.

Each chapter has study questions for individual or group use.

The Priority of Preaching

"This little book is written for ordinary ministers who preach regularly to ordinary people in ordinary places... Most of us preach in gatherings that are smaller than we would wish and tougher than we might have hoped when we entered pastoral ministry... There is a voice on our shoulders who whispers as we prepare, and then as we preach, 'Is it really worth it?'"
From the introduction

Christopher Ash writes to tell us that it is worth it. More than that, he sets out a charter for preaching that draws from the very roots of the Old Testament - showing us that nothing in the world is more worthwhile - for preaching is God's strategy to rebuild a broken world.

'a compelling apologetic for expository preaching from the wells of Deuteronomy. This little book is so seminal, so convincing, so winsome, so bracing and salutary - that it should be commended as an indispensable read to all who aspire to preach the Word''
R. Kent Hughes
Senior Pastor Emeritus, College Church, Wheaton
'a potent and perceptive little book which enables the hard-working, humble preacher of Scripture to take heart and stand tell in his calling'
John Benton
Editor, Evangelicals Now
'Plenty of books give tips and anecdotes for preachers. But this one gives pastors a massive encouragement to make preaching a priority and to keep it there.'
David Burke
Orchard Road Presbyterian Church, Singapore
'I found this short book to be as helpful as anything that I’ve read in a long while on expository preaching. I commend it warmly to all.'
Alistair Begg
Senior minister, Parkside Church, Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

Teaching Romans Volume 1Christopher Ash

The book of Romans brings us face-to-face with the wonderful glory of God's grace - grace to unify our churches and to inspire us to reach our world with the "barrier-breaking message of Christ".  The sheer scale and depth of Romans make it challenging to teach, but Christopher Ash leads us step-by-step through understanding and communicating this life-changing book.

Teaching Romans Volume 1 covers chapters 1-8.  For chapters 8-16 see Volume 2.

"Christopher Ash manages to combine both depth and simplicity in this excellent resource for teachers of Romans. I commend it warmly."
Vaughan Roberts
Rector of St Ebbe's, Oxford

Remaking a broken world

From the very beginning, sin has divided men and women from one another as well as from God. It has led to God's judgement, which has scattered humanity to prevent further evil. In consequence, we live in a broken world.

But God is remaking that world. Through the whole history of redemption, we see God at work to gather a people together, and we see him at work day by day in the gathering of the local church. The church may not impress us, but it is a foretaste of the remade world God is preparing for us.

In these three talks, Christopher Ash uses this theme to give us an overview of the whole bible story, and shows us how the history of redemption can be understood as the scattering and remaking of humanity. He shows us, too, how understanding this theme, and in particular, what it shows us about the local church, can change our Christian lives and ministries.
