Application in Preaching I

True preaching aims to do far more than inform and teach: it always has in mind the transformation of people's lives. Yet nothing is harder in preaching than applying a text to ourselves and to our hearers.

We must go beyond generalisations and pious thoughts, to bring the central thrust of the text to bear. We need application that is not an add-on to the sermon, but which flows out of the passage we preach.

In these talks David Jackman looks at some of the specific challenges of application with the aim of helping us preach sermons which are applied to mind, heart, and will.

This is the first of two talks from the 2009 Younger Ministers Conference

Part two of this series can be found here.
