PROJECT TIMOTHY arose out of the 1991 EMA when Trevor Archer (then pastor of Chessington Evangelical Church) addressed the issue of 'The Local Church as the Agent of Mission'.
Project Timothy
Trevor exhorted churches to help encourage and stimulate the cause of Biblical preaching overseas. Project Timothy was born out of this desire to build links between home and overseas churches.
In past years PT organised training sessions for those going overseas to help them get to grips with the challenges of teaching preaching in a different culture and context. We’re pleased to say that many of those who came to the training days have continued to travel abroad and strong links have been established with many churches here and overseas.
However, we need to energise a new generation of church leaders to be thinking through how they can serve the wider church and how they can encourage their churches to think more broadly than their local area.
One Day Conference 2011
In autumn 2011 we plan to hold a one day Project Timothy conference to encourage one another to share this burden and to draw new people into the work.
The day will be for:
- All those in ministry who are currently visiting or supporting overseas teaching projects either formally or on a more informal basis.
- All those in ministry who are interested in developing the kind of overseas links that Project Timothy has championed in the past.
You may be a preacher keen to visit yourself or keen to see how your church can grow through such a link. Those who have attended Project Timothy days before are strongly encouraged to come and bring others who might have a strategic part to play in such a work. We will have three short talks and plenty of time to chat, share our wisdom and pray about the future. Short teaching sessions will address the need that exists, how UK churches can help meet the need and how UK churches can benefit from overseas partnerships.
Please do plan to be with us and make a point of inviting that missing younger generation! The day will be held at our London base, Willcox House. To keep costs to a minimum, please bring your own lunch.
