Expositions for Expositors - Ephesians
Simon Austen

A central feature of the Assembly is practical instruction for ministers in rightly handling God's Word. This year Simon Austen will give two expositions for expositors from the book of Ephesians.

Simon is vicar of Houghton and Kingmoor in Carlisle and was previously a chaplain of Stowe School. He is author if two books, A Better Way and Why Should God Bother With Me? (Christian Focus). He is currently working on Teaching Ephesians for the Christian Focus / PT Media Teach the Bible series.

EMA Address on Preaching - 'Evangelistic Preaching'
William Taylor

In 2006, David Jackman's inaugural address focused on 'What's so special about preaching?' In 2007, Richard Cunningham tacked the subject, 'Preaching apologetically'.

This year, William Taylor takes the subject 'Evangelistic preaching', with a particular focus on reaching men with the gospel.

William is Rector of St. Helen's, Bishopsgate, our hosts for the EMA. He is the author of Partnership, a series of sermons on Philippians (published by Christian Focus) and is now working on a book on Matthew's Gospel.

Optional Streams:
In the slot immediately following lunch on the Wednesday we offer four 'afternoon options'. These will take place in various venues around St Helen's. Details of topics are included below. Places will be limited due to space, and so you will need to book if you wish to attend one of these sessions - allocations on a first come first served basis.

> What goes on before the sermon?
David Jackman
David casts the spotlight on the whole service of worship, looking for biblical principles and practical priorities that inform what we do before (and after) the sermon. This is an important subject and one we perhaps pay less attention to than we should.

> Preaching and application
Chris Green
Chris Green, vice-principal of Oak Hill theological college, turns the spotlight on application in preaching. What exactly do we mean by application? How do we apply God's word? Are we working hard enough at application?

> 'So Great Salvation' - an introduction to Hebrews
Dick Lucas
In his 'retirement' Dick is working steadily through the New Testament Epistles, with the specific aim of teaching us how to preach them.

The last two EMA's have seen Dick tackle 1 John and Philippians, followed on both occasions by a series of expository lectures. The lectures on Philippians will be held in January 2008. Dick hopes to run a series of lectures on Hebrews in January 2009.

> Getting in touch with God's global mission
Steve Timmis
Steve is passionately committed to putting mission at the heart of local churches and local churches at the heart of mission. His seminar will address the issue of mobilizing your church for mission.

Steve began The Crowded House movement of churches and was previously founding Director of Radstock Ministries. He is now Director of Porterbrook Training. He is co-author with Tim Chester of Total Church: a radical reshaping around gospel and community.
